For the past 35 years I've suffered from ulcerative colitis and one of the side effects (for me) was a bloated stomach and constipation - the food simply getting stuck in the large gut. At each six monthly visit to the hospital I would say how it made my life so miserable but the various consultants I saw over the years didn't seem to have a clue about what to do, or what to recommend - I was always prescribed Fibogel or Movicol. In my desperation I asked my GP to refer me to a dietician to see if it was being caused by the food I was eating - I started keeping a record of everything I ate, but could find no cause and effect. So that didn't help.

And then I met Erica Hollis and thought I'd 'give her a go'. Erica suggested a tincture to take three times a day before eating (to prepare the gut for food) and to drink 2 or 3 cups of herbal tea comprising 4 or 5 different herbs. That was four months ago and I haven't looked back. No more bloating, no more constipation and, best of all, no more watching what I eat. It's made such a huge difference to the quality of my life.

And another thing, when I re-injured my right arm earlier this year, I was in a lot of pain and found moving my arm painful and difficult. Erica made me a herbal cream to rub into the whole affected area and within less than an hour the pain was much reduced. I would often wake up at night in pain, rub the cream in and be asleep almost immediately. After applying the cream for several weeks, the pain has virtually disappeared and my arm is fully functional.

All I can say is that I don't know why traditional medicine doesn't make more use of medical herbalists. Using herbs is so much healthier than taking drugs - it's a practice that seems to have been forgotten in the rush to find ever more complicated and technical ways of treating people's medical problems. Using herbs prescribed by a trained medical herbalist is simple and safe.
